چکیده

Abstract A second-order accurate lattice Boltzmann model is presented for nonNewtonian flow. The non-Newtonian nature of the flow is implemented using a power law model. This is used to enable the accuracy of the model to be assessed and is not a limitation of the model. The second-order accuracy is demonstrated for a range of power law model parameter values representing shear thinning and shear thickening fluids. These results are compared with those of Gabbanelli et al (2006 Phys. Rev. E 72 046312) and it is noted that a higher order of accuracy and greater computational efficiency are achieved. These results demonstrate the suitability of the LBM for shear-dependent nonNewtonian flow simulations.

External and Internal Incompressible Viscous Flows Computation using Taylor Series Expansion and Least Square based Lattice Boltzmann Method

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has recently become an alternative and promising computational fluid dynamics approach for simulating complex fluid flows. Despite its enormous success in many practical applications, the standard LBM is restricted to the lattice uniformity in the physical space. This is the main drawback of the standard LBM for flow problems with complex geometry. Several app...

Micro scale gas flows has attracted significant research interest in the last two decades. In this research, the fluid flow of gases in the stepped micro-channel at a wide range of Knudsen number has been analyzed with using the Lattice Boltzmann (MRT) method. In the model, a modified second-order slip boundary condition and a Bosanquet-type effective viscosity are used to consider the veloci...

Mesoscopic Simulation of Forced Convective Heat Transfer of Carreau-Yasuda Fluid Flow over an Inclined Square: Temperature-dependent Viscosity

In the current study, non-Newtonian flow pattern and heat transfer in an enclosure containing a tilted square are examined. In order to numerically simulate the problem, the mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann method is utilized. The non-Newtonian Carreau-Yasuda model is employed. It is able to adequately handle the shear-thinning case. The simulation results of flow and heat transfer have been ...

Construction of a non-Newtonian fluid model based on the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method

A model of the lattice Boltzmann method for non-Newtonian fluids was constructed. The shear stress of purely viscous but non-elastic non-Newtonian fluid is a function of shear rate only. For the power-law model, only two constant parameters can cover shear-thinning and shear-thickening fluids. Two power-law models are introduced to the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method. One is a model ...
